Key Information
What contributes to body fat distribution?
Body composition may change over time due to a combination of factors. These can include reduced muscle mass, changes in activity levels, dietary patterns, and natural ageing processes.
How does it work?
Botulinum toxin is commonly used for cosmetic purposes such as reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, but it can also be used for medical purposes such as treating Masseter/Jaw slimming, Trapezius/Shoulder slimming/Neck pain relief, and Gastrocnemius/Leg slimming.
For Masseter/Jaw slimming, botulinum toxin is injected into the masseter muscle to relax it, which can result in a slimmer and more contoured jawline. This treatment can also help alleviate teeth grinding and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
For Trapezius/Shoulder slimming/Neck pain relief, botulinum toxin is injected into the trapezius muscle to reduce its size and alleviate pain and tension in the neck and shoulders. This treatment can be beneficial for individuals who experience chronic pain in these areas due to overuse or tension.
For Gastrocnemius/Leg slimming injection, botulinum toxin is injected into the gastrocnemius muscle, which is located in the calf, to reduce its size and improve the appearance of the legs. This treatment is often sought after by individuals who desire slimmer and more toned-looking legs.
How long will the effect last?
The duration of the effect of botulinum toxin for Masseter/Jaw slimming, Trapezius/Shoulder slimming/Neck pain relief, and Gastrocnemius/Leg slimming varies depending on individual factors such as metabolism and the amount of botox injected. Typically, the effects can last between 3 to 6 months. After this time, a follow-up treatment may be necessary to maintain the desired results.
How much does it cost?
Masseter/Jaw slimming – From $400
Trapezius/Shoulder slimming/Neck pain relief- From $640
Gastrocnemius/Leg slimming injection- From $800
What are the complications of Masseter/Jaw slimming?
The most common complications associated with botulinum toxin Masseter/Jaw slimming injections are temporary and include bruising, swelling, redness, and pain at the injection site. There is also a small risk of infection or allergic reaction.
Less common but potentially more serious complications include -
- Weakening of nearby muscles, which can cause drooping or asymmetry of the face
- Difficulty chewing or speaking if too much botulinum toxin is injected into the masseter muscle
- Temporarily affecting the smile if the botulinum toxin spreads to the muscles around the mouth
- Rarely, severe allergic reactions or breathing difficulties can occur, which require immediate medical attention.
What are the potential complications of botulinum toxin injections for Trapezius/Shoulder slimming/Neck pain relief?
- Muscle weakness - Botulinum toxin can cause temporary muscle weakness or paralysis, which can affect the movement of the shoulder and neck muscles.
- Pain and bruising - Injection site pain, redness, and bruising are common side effects that typically resolve within a few days.
- Allergic reaction - Although rare, some people may develop an allergic reaction to the injection, which can cause itching, rash, and difficulty breathing.
- Headache - Some people may experience a headache after the injection, which is usually mild and short-lived.
- Swallowing difficulties - In rare cases, botulinum toxin injections for trapezius muscle can cause difficulty swallowing.
- Infection - As with any injection, there is a risk of infection at the injection site.
What are the potential complications of botulinum toxin injections for Gastrocnemius/Leg slimming injection?
- Muscle weakness - Since botulinum toxin works by temporarily paralyzing muscles, there is a risk of experiencing muscle weakness in the treated area, which may affect mobility.
- Pain and swelling - Mild pain and swelling at the injection site are common and usually resolve within a few days.
- Bruising - Bruising may occur at the injection site, which typically resolves on its own within a few days to a week.
- Infection - As with any injection, there is a small risk of infection at the injection site.
- Allergic reactions - In rare cases, individuals may have an allergic reaction to the injection.
- Uneven results - In some cases, there may be asymmetry or uneven results in the treated area, which may require additional injections to correct.
